In the 2013 film Her, the protagonist develops a relationship with an artificially intelligent virtual assistant personified through a female voice. What was fictional, is now becoming a reality!

Generative AI is making it possible to design your ideal companion. Platforms such as DreamGF, MyAnima.ai and Forevercompanion.ai allow you to create virtual girlfriends whose images and personalities are entirely constructed by AI. Users can select physical attributes and even personality traits, crafting a customized digital partner.

While this may sound like science fiction, AI generated companions have already gained significant traction. Snapchat influencer Caryn Marjorie launched her own digital avatar on Caryn.ai offering virtual companionship for a dollar per minute. She expects to make around $5 million per month if just 20,000 of the 1.8 million followers who follow her on Snapchat subscribe to CarynAI.

Forevercompanion.ai for e.g. digitizes real models to create hybrid girlfriends, bridging the gap between AI avatars and real-life individuals. The concept of real-time video chats with AI partners and even physical robots is on the horizon, though it may be a decade or two away.

The rise of AI-driven relationships challenges our understanding of intimacy and technology's role in shaping our connections. As the AI sex and relationship industry continues to evolve, it's a topic that warrants further exploration and consideration. The development of AI-generated companions, while intriguing, raises several ethical concerns:
