Dear Reader, 👋
Imagine you’re grabbing coffee with a friend. You start telling a story, they laugh at a joke mid-sentence, you pivot based on their reaction, and you both talk over each other for a split second in excitement. It’s fluid. It’s alive.
Now, imagine talking to an AI. You speak. It "thinks." It speaks. You wait. It’s like sending voice memos back and forth or using a walkie-talkie. It’s efficient, but it isn't human.
Flipped.ai's weekly newsletter reaches over 75,000 professionals, innovators, and decision-makers worldwide. This week, we're exploring a massive breakthrough from Thinking Machines Lab that promises to end the "awkward silence" era of AI forever.
Let's dive in! 👇
Before we take the plunge, a special shoutout to The Current for supporting today’s edition.
The Free Tech Newsletter That Readers NEVER Skip
Your uncle forwards you sketchy tech articles. Your coworker won't stop talking about AI taking everyone's jobs. And you're stuck Googling the same five questions every week.
The Current is a daily tech newsletter written by Kim Komando that helps you stay up to date on AI, tech, and trends in about 5 minutes a day.
Each morning she breaks down what’s happening in tech so you can quickly understand what matters without digging through a bunch of different questionable sources.
In each issue you’ll find things like:
Important AI updates
Useful tech tips
How to avoid the latest scams
It’s a simple read designed to help you eliminate the hours you probably spend Googling the same 5 tech questions

The End of the "Walkie-Talkie" Era
For the last few years, we’ve been "training" ourselves to talk to robots. We wait for the spinning icon to stop before we dare speak again. If you interrupt a current AI, it usually gets confused or loses its train of thought.
Thinking Machines Lab, the new startup from former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, just announced they are fixing this. They’ve built something called Interaction Models.
The goal? An AI that actually listens while it talks.
What is "Full Duplex" (And why should you care?)
In the tech world, the way we currently talk to AI is called "half-duplex." One person sends data, then the other sends data.
Thinking Machines is moving us to Full Duplex. This means the AI processes your input and generates its response at the same time.
No more waiting: Their model, TML-Interaction-Small, responds in roughly 0.40 seconds.
Human speed: This is the exact speed of a natural human conversation.
True interruption: If the AI starts explaining something and you say, "Actually, skip that part," it hears you while it’s talking and adjusts instantly.
Why This Matters for You
This isn't just about making "chatting" more fun. It changes how we work:
In Meetings: Imagine an AI note-taker that can engage in real-time brainstorming without the lag that kills creativity.
In Learning: A tutor that catches your confusion the moment you make a "confused" sound, rather than finishing a three-minute lecture first.
In Accessibility: For those who rely on voice-to-text or assistive devices, this removes the frustrating delay that makes digital communication feel second-class.
The Reality Check
Right now, this is a research preview, not a product you can download today. Thinking Machines is being careful. They plan to release a limited version in the coming months, with a wider release later this year.
The benchmarks are undeniably impressive, but the true test lies in whether the real-world experience can match the technical hype once we get it into our hands.

The Bottom Line
We are moving away from "prompting" machines and toward "collaborating" with them. When AI can listen, interrupt, and react at the speed of thought, the line between "tool" and "teammate" finally disappears.
