The headliners on one page
Apps inside ChatGPT
Call an app by name during your conversation, or let ChatGPT suggest one when it's relevant. Use interactive interfaces without opening new tabs. Design in Canva, search homes on Zillow's map, and book travel through Expedia, all inside the chat window.
Apps SDK for developers
Developers can start building today using the new Apps SDK, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Submissions open later this year. The opportunity? Direct access to over 800 million ChatGPT users.
Launch partners
Seven apps are available now: Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow. Eleven more are coming soon, including DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and AllTrails.
You can now chat with apps in ChatGPT.

How does it work?
Apps appear naturally in your chat. Start with "Spotify, make a playlist for my party" or "Zillow, find apartments under $2,000." ChatGPT understands context, pulls in the right app, and helps you get things done.
Privacy & Safety
Developers must collect minimum data and include clear privacy policies. First-time users get a permission prompt. More granular controls are coming later this year.
Why is this different?
Remember the GPT Store? That was a separate marketplace you had to visit.
This is different.
Apps now appear directly in your ChatGPT responses. You're having a conversation about weekend plans, and Spotify surfaces naturally. You mention house hunting, and Zillow appears with an interactive map.
No context switching. No app hopping. Just conversation that gets things done.
Real examples that show the power
Planning a trip
"Booking.com, find hotels in Barcelona, walking distance to La Sagrada Familia, under €150 per night."

ChatGPT pulls up interactive cards with options. You refine your dates, adjust your budget, and book, all without leaving the thread.
Creating content
"Canva, turn this outline into a slide deck for my Monday presentation."

An embedded Canva panel appears. Edit directly in chat. Export when ready. Your outline becomes a presentation in minutes.
Learning something new
"Coursera, can you teach me something about machine learning?"

The Coursera app surfaces relevant courses. You can watch videos and ask ChatGPT to explain confusing concepts without pausing the video or switching tabs.
Finding a home
"Zillow, show me apartments in Austin, 2 bedrooms, pet-friendly, under $2,500."
An interactive map appears with listings. Click one. Ask questions. Compare neighborhoods. All through natural conversation.
What makes this work?
The magic is in the blend.
You get familiar interfaces for maps, playlists, presentations, and booking cards. But you interact through conversation. It's intuitive and interactive at the same time.
The Apps SDK is built on open standards (Model Context Protocol), so apps can trigger actions, connect to your existing accounts, and render fully interactive UIs right in the response.
Certain apps can even display videos pinned to the top of the page, adjustable based on what you ask for.
For developers: New distribution channel
If you're building software, this changes the game.
Instead of fighting for downloads or hoping users find you in an app store, you can reach 800+ million people exactly when they need your tool.
The Apps SDK preview is available now. Documentation includes design guidelines and example apps. Test in Developer Mode. Submit for review later this year.
OpenAI will support monetization through features like Instant Checkout. Apps that meet design and functionality standards get featured in conversations and the upcoming directory.
The big questions
Privacy: What data do developers see? Your entire chat history or just the prompt that called them? OpenAI says minimum data collection is required, but specifics aren't fully clear yet.
Competition: How will ChatGPT choose between DoorDash and Instacart? Between Expedia and Booking.com? OpenAI says user experience comes first, but we'll see how this plays out.
Business model: Will companies pay to be surfaced more often? OpenAI hasn't said, but monetization details are coming.
Who can use this?
Apps are available now to all logged-in ChatGPT users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Works on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu will get access later this year. EU availability is expected soon.
What's coming next?
More apps: DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, AllTrails, and more launching later this year.
App directory: A dedicated space to browse and search for apps.
Developer submissions: Open for review and publication later this year.
Monetization: Details coming soon, including support for the Agentic Commerce Protocol for instant checkout.
Granular controls: Choose exactly what data each app can access.
Why does this matter?
Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, said it best:
"We want ChatGPT to be a great way for people to make progress, to be more productive and more inventive, to learn faster, and to do whatever they're trying to do in their lives better."
This isn't about adding features. It's about reimagining how we work.
Instead of juggling twelve browser tabs, three apps, and four login screens, you have a conversation. The tools come to you. The friction disappears.
We're not just getting better chatbots. We're watching the interface itself evolve.
Try it yourself.
Next time you're in ChatGPT, try calling up an app by name:
"Spotify, create a focus playlist for deep work."
"Figma, turn this sketch into a wireframe."
"Zillow, what's the housing market like in Denver?"
See what happens. The future is already here; it's just unevenly distributed (and not in the EU yet).
